Artist Statement
Painting is about engaging with a substance and materials that I can channel my thoughts and feelings through. It's an intimate connection that involves reflection on the marks I'm making, along with my surroundings and experiences. Equally it happens in the spur of the moment, capturing the essence of a feeling in an intuitive and impulsive manner.
It's important to stick my neck out in my practice. To get outside and look at things and take in different perspectives. These encounters feed back into the studio, influencing the colours and textures in my work.
I want to capture something real in my work. Something tangible that couldn't be said any other way. If this contains an unknown element or mystery, then that's even better and fuels me to delve deeper into the world around me and my place in it.
